The Sanctuary brings clarity to HD post-production09/04/2008
Are you worried by the complexities of producing programmes in High Definition? For the producer, the transition to High Definition can appear daunting; it is like the quantum leap from black and white to colour. The technology costs more than standard definition and so with already tight budgets, this presents an interesting challenge. Mistakes can be costly and so you need to select suppliers that have the necessary track record to guide you efficiently round the pitfalls.
The Sanctuary has been working in HD for more than 5 years. We have state-of-the-art equipment in a brand new installation, operated and supported by some of the most experienced and creative HD practitioners in the business.
In Broadcast magazine’s post survey of 2008, The Sanctuary was named as the fastest growing post-house in the UK, yet it maintains the feeling of an independent family business where talent, technical expertise and team work are brought together under one roof to deliver exactly what producers need. If you entrust your next (or first) HD project to The Sanctuary, you will be able to concentrate on producing great programmes with the peace of mind that we are looking after all the technicalities for you. You gain best advantage by talking to us at the earliest stages of production, so to arrange a face-to-face meeting where you can discuss the nuances and workflow of your particular programme with us, please give us a call on 020 7434 4133.
We have produced The Sanctuary Guide to HD for you to keep on your desk as a useful tool in deciphering the inevitable jargon that surrounds the subject. If you would like to be sent a free copy, please email info@thesanctuary.tv with your contact details and mailing address.

Avid and Digital Vision: Improved Workflow05/03/2008
During 2006 The Sanctuary started to investigate the possibility of installing a dedicated grading suite at its Soho facility. We already possessed four DS Nitris systems that were used for all online and grading needs, but increasingly found that we were running at full capacity. Given the current explosion in demand for grading work across the industry, coupled with the fact that an increasing amount of The Sanctuary’s daily throughput is in high definition and that film scanning is becoming ever more commonplace, the decision to add a dedicated grading suite to its facilities was a fairly easy one to make.

The Sanctuary sponsors Movie Mogul Fund22/02/2008
The Sanctuary is delighted to sponsor the newly created Movie Mogul Fund.
The Cardiff Bay-based production company Movie Mogul Fund www.moviemogulfund.com is billed as "a community generated film funding system", Movie Mogul Fund makes use of the internet's unique communication abilities by enabling its members to influence and be involved in production of feature films from the comfort of their laptops.
Screenplays are entered in competition by hopeful film makers and production money is collected from a combination of film industry sponsorship and website membership fees. In return for their subscription, Movie Mogul Fund users decide which films make it into production, giving them the rare opportunity to take an active role in the production of new films.
Eight feature-length and eight short film screenplays are shortlisted, from which website subscribers must decide their favorite in each category. The two proposals with the most support at the end of a three month period are then put into production. During this period members have the opportunity to discuss ideas with other users and the film makers and writers themselves by way of forums attached to the main site.
Producer/director of the UK-wide enterprise, John Shackleton, expands on the motivation behind the project.
"There is an abundance of talent out there but only very few outlets in which to get things made, and sadly it doesn't necessarily tally that the cream always rises to the top. There seemed to me to be an obvious missing link in the film chain; where is the democracy in film selection? Astute, intelligent audiences pay to watch films, why is nobody consulting them on rising talent?"
The Sanctuary will be offering a full range of subsidised post production facilities and creativeskills to helpnurture the new and developing directorial and writing talent.
